On the bright side

My last two students were heading out when I received a call. It was Aiden's mom. "What happened today to Aiden?" she asked.

I was lost. "We had a great day at school today. Is he hurt?"

She said, "No, he isn't hurt. Grandpa brought home a note from you. It said to call and that he was in trouble. What happened?"

"I didn't write a note. Was it the newsletter?"

"No, it wasn't the newsletter. I asked Aiden what happened, and he said that he punched Neil."

"Well, the boys are always talking about fighting and pretending to fight, which I tell them not to do, but no one was hurt today that I'm aware of."

"But there is a paper where you wrote . . ."

All of a sudden the lightbulb turned on. Our Bible story that week at St. Matthew's preschool was Jesus calming the storm, and for today's activity we colored pictures of Jesus in the boat with the disciples with his arms stretched out. I intended to put our Bible verse for the week on the bottom of the picture before I printed it, but I had forgotten. So on a few students' pictures, I had time to write, "Call upon me in the day of trouble."

Next time I will remember to write it like this, "Bible verse: Call upon me in the day of trouble (Psalm 50:15)."
