WELS Connection - August 2008

One of the greatest strengths of our synod is our called work force. Plans are in place to identify young people with particular gifts for ministry – from outside our traditional prep school system – and to encourage them towards working full time in the Lord’s kingdom. Our preparatory schools have played the primary role in training future workers. Going forward, the mission of our prep schools won’t change – but our synod is implementing a comprehensive plan to encourage more area high school students to consider full-time ministry.

This past June, representatives from 33 countries met in Minnesota for the triennial convention of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference—or CELC. As an international fellowship of confessional Lutheran churches, the CELC is a reminder that there are Christians all over the world walking together with us in WELS—in places like Ukraine.
